Modding Guide - Fallout 4

This will be my guide for how to make your

Fallout 4 look incredible, and also feel incredible.

Getting Started

Mod Managers
This is where it can get a little confusing, you will have to choose Mod Manager to use. There are a lot of different things, but my favorite is Vortex right now. There's also the old Nexus Mod Manager, but I wouldn't recommend it if you really want to go into heavy mode. I recommend starting with Vortex, most likely you will need to watch some videos on how to set it up and use it to its full potential.

F4SE and Other Mod Requirements

Of course, mod requires other mods, this is how it works.
These are often requirements, I won't tell you how to install them, but it's easy to research them yourself.

  • F4SE
  • Armor and Weapon Keywords Community Resource
  • Armorsmith Extended

Remember that some mods also require other mods, some weapon mods may require a different weapon for texture or animation. Only when downloading the mod or checking the request tab based on the information, will it say the request and give you a direct link by clicking on the name.

Modding Sites

There are many different websites to use for this. I recommend getting started with Nexusmod, because it's the easiest to use and doesn't require as much "access" as some other websites. Below I will link my main site for the mod.

  • Nexusmods
  • Gunetwork

Although the last page, gunetwork is a very good site, it requires access to the private mod section, don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good pages on the public mod section. Just use the site, comment and be activated and you will have access to the privacy section of the site.

Find the right module for the appropriate play style

It's a game that takes time, this is where you will sometimes have to think about how your game will be changed. Now, if it can be graphics or a lot of new weapons or a surreal game, it's entirely up to you. But I recommend starting with nice mods that improve the graphics and lighting. The following section will give you some tips on a few good things.

Useful, but not Required Mods

Theese mods are a MUST HAVE for me atleast.

  • In-game ESP Explorer

If you know what an ESP file is, this is obvious. But what it does is allow you to open a new menu (default shortcut F11) that displays the only modded MACHI loaded in your game, then with just one click of the mod in the menu, you can Get a screen with all the new items in this mod. Really easy to use and saves you a lot of time on the dashboard.

  • Mod Configuration Menu

This mod is also really clear when considering the name. But basically, it allows you to configure mods that support this mod. Making it easier and making you edit things you need to take a lot of time to do, and it also makes some mods easier to uninstall.

PIP-Boy Mods:
Now you have to decide, do you want to use the original PIP-BOY, PIP-PAD or PIP-BOY 2000? I like the normal PIP-BOY but I think it will take off the beautiful armor from your left arm and will also look very pitiful in this game. But the main difference between them is their appearance, but PIP-PAD and PIP -BOY 2000 remove it from your arm as I said before. My main choice is PIP-BOY 2000 because it is much cleaner, it does not seem to meet many bugs in the PIP-PAD mod. Anyway, here is the link to both:

  • PIP-BOY 2000

Now is the time for the fun part, making your game awesome. This can be very tedious as these mods can be difficult to install. Let's start with the most important

It is a mod that can change the whole game of lightning and the overall color. This makes the game stand out more than any other mod. If you don't know how to install ENB, I will provide you with a video as soon as I do. But it is a good ENB that I recommend:
  • PRC

What makes this ENB so good is its user customization. This ENB has more options than I can explore, but don't hesitate to refer to them, here are some examples: color boost, color balance and more.

What this ENB mainly does stands on the mod page aswell if you want to read more about it.

This has to be one of my favourite ways to mod my game.

Trust me, weapon mods in this game are incredible, we got some really talented modders out there.
I shall link some of my favourites for you to check out their work yourselfs:
  • FX0x01
  • asXas
  • Toasty Fresh

Remember that not all of them are the people I remember in my head. But if you want more, google on 4 mod weapons mod. There are many, or check out the weapon catalog on the nexusmods here:
  • Weapons Category

It really has nothing to do with modding, but I can throw it here anyway.
The way i take my screenshots is opening console and writing the command:
  • tfc 1 (toggle free camera 1)

Reason for the "1" is because that freezes the game so you can move freely
  • tm (toogle menus)

This one is obvious, just removes the ui for a clean screenshot.
